My background

Throughout my professional life, I have focused on strategy and innovation. This started in academics. I studied business economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam, with strategic management as specialization. After my graduation I did research on strategy, corporate entrepreneurship and innovation in large firms and received a PhD in strategic management at Erasmus University Rotterdam. This focus has been continued in my consultancy work, which I started in 2000, advising companies on strategy, structure, new business development and innovation.

 

My interests

As stated above, my main interests regard strategy and innovation,
especially in large firms, because they often have impressive resources,
but find it difficult to apply them innovatively and in a spirit of entrepreneurship. I have a special interest in scenario planning. Furthermore, my interest in strategy execution has grown over the years, because I have seen many excellent strategies, failing to produce the expected result due to weak execution processes.

 

Working at Nolan, Norton & Co.

For me, Nolan, Norton & Co. is the perfect home base to do management consulting. Here I find the exciting combination of strong, demanding clients, highly interesting assignments and high quality colleagues with whom teamwork is both fun and effective. One of my responsibilities is to keep the strategy competences at NNC at top-level. My assignments vary form strategy to organisation and execution, in all types of industries.

Looking at the future

To some extent both NNC and our clients face the same challenge: to innovate our way of working. As I see the current developments in business, strategies and business models are so dynamic nowadays that one thing is for sure: our most successful ways of working of the past will not be effective in the future. That will be a tough, but stimulating experience.
