IT is no longer just a back-office or support function, but has become an integral part of running a business. CEO’s and marketeers alike are brushing up their understanding of the value of IT for their business and the difficulty in balancing cost, speed and flexibility.
The complexity of IT is not to be underestimated. IT is a profession in itself, which applies to more than the development and maintenance of IT systems. building an IT strategy, IT organisation or IT program requires knowledge and experience which are at least partially unique to the IT domain. but IT knowledge as such is not enough, given the importance of IT for a company’s competitiveness, a thorough understanding of the business domain is also required.
