| The value and application of service catalogues |

Together with ForceFive and CIO Magazine, Nolan, Norton & Co. conducted research on the value and application of the (IT) service catalogue within the CIO community in the Netherlands. The service catalogue is now commonplace, as was the assumption, but its objective, content and application were not uniformly determined. Some clarity on this 'steering instrument' seemed required. The main finding from our research is that whereas the initial objective of a service catalogue is often related to the improvement of Business - IT alignment, the true benefit is more related to standardisation and IT efficiency. It is found that a service catalogue is a useful tool, but should be combined with other measures to achieve an effective and efficient embedding of IT in the organisation.
